The board of the TLC hopes this newsletter finds you all well as we once again head into the busy holiday season.  We have some fun events planned between now and Jan. and we hope you will all take advantage of our events.  First of tomorrow is our monthly happy hour.  We will enjoy the music of James Woolwine as well as a light buffet, free to members.  There will also be a couple of fun raffles, so consider dropping by.

In Dec. we have our big Holiday party on Sat. Dec. 9th.  Your annual dues covers a full home cooked Italian Meal.  Once again, we are honored to have Charter Flight on board to entertain you and help us celebrate the joy of the holiday season!  Again, the cost is simply your $24 renewal of your annual dues!  What a deal!  You will get most of that back in the outstanding dinner you will have!  The fun starts at 6pm and goes to 8:30pm.  See you there!

Once again we are planning another movie and dinner outing!!!!  The date is not set yet but will be announced in our Dec. Newsletter!  We are currently looking at a few possible winter films to choose from so watch for news coming soon!

We wish you and your family a wonderful Veterans Day and Thanksgiving Holiday.

Sincerely,
The Board of The Theater Lovers Community

TLC Night at the Movies

APRIL

Pirates of Penzance
Music by Arthur Sullivan
Book and Lyrics by W.S. Gilbert
April 19-28 2018.

Prepare to set sail off the coast of Cornwall with the swashbuckling Pirates of Penzance! Frederic has earned his dues as the pirates’ apprentice waiting to be promoted to full pirate-dom on his 21st birthday, but upon discovery that he is a leap year baby born on February 29th, it seems he may never get the chance. This roaring comedy, one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s most famous works, gets a fresh interpretation on the Ring stage.

We have not forgotten our
ESCAPE NIGHT!
However, we still need more people for a team!
Please email your interest.

I hope life has returned back to normal since our battle with Irma.  We wish to thank everyone who came out to our rescheduled Happy Hour event in Sept.  It was actually well attended and helped us start the process of returning to normalcy!  As we push into October and the holiday season, we have several great events planned.  As our new President, Nancy has stated, one thing we wish to do in the 2017-2018 season of TLC is make an effort to get back to our roots so to speak and experience some local “Theater”.  We have listed the first of what we hope will be several great events over the course of the year below.  This one is quite a bit down the road so expect others sooner but we will get a group together for “Pirates of Penzance” in April.  As we get a bit closer, we will select a date…for now take a look at the run dates for the show and PLEASE email your interest so that we can have a great event!  We have listed several other events below as well including our Holiday Party.  Remember that your renewal is most likely due at the holiday party.  If you have any question as to your renewal date…simply respond to this email and it will be checked.

We look forward to seeing each and everyone of you at our future events

Sincerely,

The Board of the TLC

Happy Labor Day.

Autumn is upon us and with a bit of luck the long hot summer will soon be in the past. However, we know the events will never cool down in TLC.

First off we must give a big thank you to our past President, Sean Beck who watched over our club for the past 7 years I doubt anyone will ever serve as president for as long as you did.  Under his watching the club became much more financially stable and our events grew substantially. Now we turn to a new era.  Our 4th TLC President, Nancy Kavanaugh, brings so much to our club and the board is super excited to see where she leads us.over the next 12 months.  One thing Nancy wants to see for TLC is more emphasis on the “T” for theater.  Already we are looking at getting a group together in Spring for Pirates of Penzance! Please let us know now if you are interested.   In October, we will be having an Octoberfest event at the American Legion Hall in South Miami.  There is a $10 cost and this will be in place of our monthly happy hour for the month of October.

However, first up is our Sept. Happy Hour set for this Sat. Sept. the 9th (Stay away Irma!)  Join the TLC for an evening with Mr. James Woolwine which includes a free buffet for all TLC members, raffles and fun!

And now a message from our new TLC President:

To all of my fellow TLC members,

Most of you already know me. I’m Nancy Kavanaugh and was elected President of our club last month.I’ve been a member for over 13 years.I plan to help keep TLC on the path it’s been on under the wonderful leadership of Richard Webster,Sean Beck and the other TLC board members. As the new President I’d like to see more events in a variety of locations. Our members are spread out through several cities in  Miami-Dade and Broward County. It’s been a running joke among some members that it’s been a long time since the TheaterLovers Community  has actually been to the theater. I’d love for us to get together and attend at least one play or musical by the end of this year.
I would also like to see more input from the TLC members on what they’d like to do as a group. That would be a great help to me and the
other board members. You can e-mail me at:
winpoohgirl@yahoo.com or continue to e-mail Richard Webster at rsisbest@yahoo.com

Hope to see you soon at one of our upcoming fall events.
Nancy

And just like that, summer is here!  We wish to start off by saying what a wonderful event our 13th annual Charity Talent Show turned out to be.  It was, without a doubt our best one in at least 12 years and perhaps ever!  Much thanks to all the great talent who came out and of course to all of you who came out and supported the performers and of course our two great charities, Dora and the USO.  Much thanks to Joseph Sosa for coming out and talking about what his foundation does and a special thank you to Mr. Art Bivins who makes running the show look easy!  It is not! BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Anielya Wells-Miller for winning this year’s show!  You were fantastic!  But now on to other things!

You all know that in South Florida things quiet down a lot in summer.  That is never the case with TLC.  First, on June 12th we will have a country western night happy hour so put a pair of blue jeans on and dust off your stetson for some good ole fashioned fun!  Check out the list of events below but please check for updates throughout the summer on both our website as well as in future emails.

On Aug. 5th we will have TLC elections, music, food and best of all we will present our check to the Mami Dora Foundation.  Please mark your planner now and don’t miss this great evening of fun!!!!

Last summer we had a couple of Thursday night happy hours which were very popular.  This year we plan the same.  Check your July and Aug. Newsletters for more info on dates and details.

We have not forgotten our Great Escape Evening!  If you would like to join our escape team, let us know and we will work within everyone’s schedule.  Our Plan is to also dine in a nice restaurant after or before the game.  Let us know now and we will set up a couple dates.

Karaoke anyone?  Let us know if you have interest and we will plan an evening very soon!

Have a Great Summer and Stay Cool!

The Board of the TLC.
